Distribution: 產地﹕	Maily produced in Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Henan, Hubei, Zhejiang, Jiangxi provinces of China. 主 產 於 湖 北 ﹐ 安 徽 ﹐ 江 蘇 ﹐ 河 南 ﹐ 湖 北 ﹐ 浙 江 ﹐ 江 西 等 省 。

Actions & Indications: 主治﹕	For yinxu (yin deficient)   with flashes: usually combine with qing hao, di gu pi  For yinxu with heat and pain: usually combine with gui ban, mu li, bai shao, e jiao . For chronic malaria, pain in rib and chest, amenorrhea, hardening and swelling of liver and spleen: usually combine with san leng , e zhu, qing pi , xiang fu zi, hong hua  ,tao ren.   治陰虛 潮 熱 ﹕  常 配 青 蒿 ,   地骨皮  等 同 用 ； 治 陰 虛 陽 亢 動 風 ﹕  常 與 龜 板  ,    牡蠣 ,    白 芍 ,   阿 膠 等 同 用 。 治 久 瘧 ,   瘧 母 ,   胸 脅 作 痛 及 月 經 不 通 ， 癥 瘕 積 聚 等 症 ﹕ 可 與 三 棱 ,   莪  朮  ,   青皮 ,    香 附 子 ,   紅 花 ,   桃仁等 配 伍 應 用 。   生品先煎或砂炙。   滋陰潛陽宜生用，軟堅散結宜砂炙用。

sheng bie jia is raw shell, mainly used in nourishing yin (in yinxu (yin deficient)  condition).

zhi bie jia is baked shell, mainly used for swollen liver or spleen.

生 鱉 甲 ，即  鱉 甲生 用 。 主 要 用 於 滋 陰 潛 陽 。

炙 鱉 甲 ，即 砂 炙之  鱉 甲   . 主 要 用 於 軟 堅 散 結 。

疟母即慢性疟疾或疟疾反复发作所致的肝脾肿大。亦称疟痞。

軟堅散結：乳癌腫瘤在中醫古典著作中稱為「積聚」, 「結」, 「堅」等。軟堅散結常用的中藥有鰲甲, 夏枯草, 昆布, 海藻, 牡蠣等等。
