Diabetes herb formula for overactive liver yang

By: Joe Hing Kwok Chu

  Clinical symptoms:

Shortness of temper, dizziness, thirst and desire to drink liquid frequently. Red face and red eyes, dark urine, hard stool, red tongue with yellow coating, pulse stringy (xian) and fast.

Sample of prescriptions:

Formula:

tian ma 6g, gou teng 10g, shi jue ming 20g (boil first), huang bo 10g, zhi mu 10g, shan yu rou 10 g, dan pi 10g, ze xie 10 g, sheng di 10g,  shan zhi zi  10g, shan yao 10g.

Boil with water for about 30 minutes to make tea.

Adjustments:

If the patient has liver yin deficiency and is dizzy, add: bai shao, gou qi zi

If the patient has overactive liver heat, dry mouth and pink eyes: add long dan cao

This is the classical traditional Chinese herb formula. Do not confuse this with the pre-packaged formulae which sometimes are not pure traditional Chinese herbs and might contain modern prescription drugs.
