Note: The name of formula "er chen tang" literally means "two aged (ingredients) soup". The ingredients chen pi and ban xia are considered to be best when they have been aged for long time (chen).
An classical text mentioned that zhi ke, chen pi, ban xia, lang du,
ma huang, zhu yu should be aged (chen); then they are more effected.
Thus those six herbs mentioned above are called "liu chen", meaning
six aged (herbs). This formula "er chen" means "two aged (herbs)."
