Leukemia classifications and herb therapy Two methods of classification of leukemia: 1. according to the types of white blood cell being affected: (a) lymphocytic leukemia (b) myelocytic leukemia (leukemia of white cells from the bone marrow) 2. according to the speed of development and seriousness of the disease, like (a) acute leukemia (b) leukemic meningitis Because of it is possible to predict the progression of the diseases and to determine the use of therapy methods, the two classifications are being combined. So leukemia is being classified into the following four categories: Combined (the above) classification of lleukemia 1. Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), 急性骨髓細胞白血病 also called acute non lymphocytic leukemia (ANLL), with a sub group call acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) associated with bleeding disorder.Often seen on 50 to 70 years group. 2. Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) 急性淋巴細胞白血病 mostly affects children under 10 years of age and also affect geratics over 65 years of age. Most of the cases affect the B type of lymphocytes. Since the 90's the survivor rates has improved from 38% of the 70's to 60%; and for the same period, the survivor rates of children has improved from 54% to 82%. 3. Chronic myelogenous leukemia(CML) 慢性骨髓細胞白血病 Mainly shows up in older people from 50 to 70 years of age. A small amount of children are also affected. Usually one the genes is mutated: Ph1 chromosome. 4. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) 慢性淋巴細胞白血病 Usually affect older people and it affects family members. It is more common among Westerners than among Chinese. Usually the disease exist many years without treatment and without awareness of the patients.
