Angina Pectoris Myocardial Ischemia Coronary Artery Disease Angina Pectoris, Myocardial Ischemia and Coronary Artery Disease are three different concepts sometime used interchangeably. Angina pectoris is the condition of sudden onset of chest pain accompanied by arm and shoulder pain. It is a subjective event. Mycardial ischemia is caused by reduced perfusion which causes inadequate supply of oxygen to and removal of waste from the myocytes and can cause disordered cellular metabolism and impaired contraction of the affected heart muscles. Coronary artery disease refers to the anatomic disorder of coronary arteries on top of the heart, usually caused by focal accumulations of atherosclerotic material in the arterial intima.
