Hematocrit is useful in
testing of blood viscosity. It is expressed by the percentage of volume of packed red blood cells in a given sample
of blood after centrifugation.
Whole blood samples of
healthy adults is 37% -50%. The values of ematocrit of women are smaller
than that of men. Changes in red blood cell count during exercise
directly affects the hematocrit value. The changes in hematocrit values
are affected by the changes in the number of red blood cells and also by
the plasma.
