There is a case in Hong Kong where a Chinese woman died from using the wrong item from the herb store but this is very rare. Not many people like long dan cao (Gentiana) because it is very bitter. I used to capsule it for my son Tommy with your help. You gave me the equipment to capsule them.

The list of herbs is awkward to read because the names listed are not uniformed, it consist of commonly used English names, 1 Chinese pinyin name, parts of botanical names, pharmaceutical names.

Akabea fruit (木 通 ）Although Akebia trifoliata is always listed as the plant of the herb mu tong but in reality this plant is rarely used except in some remote localities. Aristolochia manshuriensis (guan mu tong 關木通) is being used. Aristolochia is very toxic to the kidney. It created an international uproar because of many Europeans ended with kidney failure and many death.

Scute is confusing. It is a common English word for the protective plate of scale like those of turtle shell 龜 板, or armadillo scale 穿 山 甲. If it is armadillo scales it is toxic for the kidneys but not as toxic as 木 通 Aristolochia
