Originally produced in eastern Europe and
Turkey. Now it is grown in Europe, South Australia and in California and
Wisconsin, Illinois. Illinois is the largest producing area in the world
Later it spread to China. Early cultivation in Qingdao, Shanghai suburb
of China, and also other suburban or vegetables processing bases there
are small-scale cultivation.
