The Po Chai Pills produced in Hong Kong are found to contain Phenolphthalein which can exerts
laxative effects. Po chai pill is for stopping diarrhea and it is contradicting the purpose of Po Chai Pills.
Another contamination is sibutramine (Meridia) which has been removed from the market in U.S.
because of concerns about the risk of heart attack and stroke. This drug was used to control obesity.
On October 8, 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked Abbott Laboratories to voluntarily
withdraw sibutramine hydrochloride (Meridia) from the U.S. market.
Drug control of Singapore ordered the recall in April 8, 2016 The Hong Kong government
ordered the recall in March 26,2016..
May be the equipments were contaminated or the raw materials from Mainland China were contaminated.
It is being investigated in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong governmant is investigating the law and
manufacturer may face criminal prosecution.
