your email I am writing for advice. Bob has low blood pressure now.
Sometimes it is 90-something over 60-something.
However, his pulse is fast--well over 100.
Until we can see you again, what do you suggest we can do
to lower the pulse?
Answer: I think the beta blocker can lower the blood pressure
and can help lower the heart rate.
Dexamethasone is on the other end of the scale.
Do the Longevity qigong with focus on 2 things: general dan tian
and yong quan point. When breathing in focus on general dan tian
and when during exhaling focus of yong quan point.
I will call Bobby tomorrow to set up an appointment for Wednesday. On
Tuesday we go back to the oncologist to check everything.
Answer: I look forward in seeing you guys.
Bob is very tired and weak. He has a hard time sleeping. When he
starts to fall asleep he feels as if he can't catch his breath again.
Last night he had to get up and ended up sitting the rest of the night.
Today we borrowed a recliner from friends and he will try to sleep
in the recliner so he does not have to actually lie down.
Answer:
The adrenocortical hormones can keep a person hyper
and have difficulty in sleeping. When a person is short of breath, he will
also wake up from sleep.
Practise the Longevity qigong before bed to calm down and to help with the circulation
to increase the blood oxygen level.
Does his doctor give him a finger oxygen saturation monitor?
He is taking many medicines: (1) dexamethasone (a steroid), (2)
lovenox (steroid), (3) furosemide( a water reducing pill), (4)
metroprolol (beta blocker for the heart which also lowers blood
pressure, (5) septra (an antibiotic to avoid pneumonia, (6) warfarin
(another anti-clotting medicine), (7) a stool softener, (8) trazodone
(to help him to sleep). He is not yet taking the thalidomide which is
the other medicine to help reduce the plasma cells; this is because the
dose we have is too high now that his heart is affected & this medicine
is very regulated & complicated to get.
Answer:
(1) Dexamethasone is like andrenocortical hormone. It has anti-inflammatory
, anti-histamine effect and also being used in preventing vomiting in cancer therapy.
It is being used in when the adrenocortical hormone is low. When adrenocortical
hormone is low, the blood pressure can be low, heart rate can be low (in some cases
it can be fast to counter the low blood pressure).
See andrenocortical hormone here.
Beta blocker inhibit the hormone from
adrenal madulla, such as adrenaline (epinephrine), nor-adrenaline (nor-epinephrine)
a key agent in the sympathetic nervous system and activation of heart muscle.
By blocking the action of the sympathetic nervous system on the heart, beta blockers
slow the heart beat, help to correct arrythmia.
It seems to me the characteristics of Dexamethasone is opposite of that of beta blockers.
Lovenox is a blood thinner, not a steroid. It is a low molecule heparin. It is use for
dissolving and preventing blood clots. See heparin here.
Furosemide is a very powerful diuretics. Does Bob have his potassium check at regular
intervals. In my experience, using qigong exercise can also help move excess liquid.
See Warfarin here.
I understand that antibiotics is given when there are suspected symptoms of infection.
Watch for cough, fever, chills carefully and inform your doctors early.
I understand that trazodone, an antidepression, works by inhibiting the uptake by nerves
of serotonin and norepinephrine; but beta blocker inhibits norepinephrine.
Using qigong can stabilize the mood.
Bob continues to practice the qi gong you taught him. I am trying to
practice every day, too, but yesterday & today, as soon as I got up
early I had to do so much for him that I did not stop until I fell into
bed. Now it is 11:30 at night but I will do some qi gong before I
sleep. I know how important it is that I stay strong.
Hope to see you on Wednesday.
Answer: Keep yourself strong; so Bob can be strong.
